We train medieval swordsmanship in Oslo and have spent two decades building harnesses, weapons and dress. We rent the kit out, and the knights come with it — for film, TV, music video, events and private bookings.

Hire armour, weapons and costumes
We rent out complete harnesses as well as individual pieces. The parts combine freely, so a kit can be assembled around the job — from a simple mail shirt to a full plate harness. Our armour fits most adults.
Every piece is built to be historically accurate, which is why it holds up to close-ups and to an audience that looks at detail. We are flexible about how a hire works: equipment can be collected, delivered or set up on location, and we are happy to send someone to help with dressing and fitting. All hires run on a standard contract.

Knights, extras and stunt work
Hire knights in armour
We can field up to six knights in full armour. All of them have trained medieval swordsmanship for years and handle choreographed combat on camera as readily as a day of meeting the public.
Our knights hand out roses in the street, talk to children at festivals, give speeches and fight. We shape the performance around the event, and meet people with a mix of humour, historical fact and old-fashioned chivalry.

Production
For film, TV, music video and commercials
We have supplied equipment and people to the TV series Julekongen, Ringnes brand launches, documentaries and commercials.
We know how a set runs, we know what a shooting day costs, and we turn up with kit that is ready to work. Productions can hire armour and costume on its own, or hire the people who wear it. Fight-trained performers with years of practice make combat scenes repeatable and safe, take after take.

Dressing takes time. We take that time beforehand, not during the take.
Camp and set dressing
A complete medieval camp
Four large tents, three smaller ones and a historical cart. The camp works both as a set piece and as a place for the public to gather.
It comes with full cooking equipment — cauldrons, grill and fire box — tables and benches seating at least 20 people, plus lamps and awnings for shelter. We handle setup and takedown ourselves.
Private bookings
Stag dos, birthdays and company events
Dressing the groom-to-be in a full harness and sending him out to hand roses to strangers is hard to beat.
We rent armour to private customers and often combine it with a sword-fighting workshop for the whole group. Every booking is built around the occasion, whether it is a stag do, a milestone birthday or a company gathering that needs something other than another evening of bowling.

Twenty years of medieval martial arts in Oslo
Friknektene is first and foremost a group that trains medieval swordsmanship. We practise Historical European Martial Arts and armoured fighting.
We use blunt weapons and semi-contact: blows land, but they are pulled to avoid injury. We train weekly, and behind us lie two decades of work — combat shows, historical lectures, film events, private parties and children's television, in Norway and abroad. Countless festivals have taught us how to talk to an audience of any age.
Alongside the fighting, we spend a great deal of time recreating historically accurate dress, armour and weapons. That is the same knowledge behind everything we rent out.

Frequently asked questions
Can private customers hire armour?
Yes. We rent to private customers, companies, event organisers and production companies. All hires run on a standard contract.
What does it cost to hire armour or knights?

Will the armour fit anyone?
We have several sets that combine and adjust, and they fit most adults. Tell us the height and build of the people who will wear it and we will find a solution.
Can I hire individual pieces?
Yes. You can hire a full harness or single pieces such as a helmet, mail shirt or shield, and we put together whatever suits the job.
Do you work outside Oslo?
We take bookings across Norway and travel abroad as well. Travel costs are agreed in the quote.
Are the weapons real?
The weapons are real in material and construction, but blunted, with no sharp edge. They are made for martial arts and display, and handled by people with years of training.
Can you build fight scenes for film?
Yes. We have stunt-trained performers experienced in choreographed combat on camera, and we plan the scenes together with the production.
How far in advance should we book?
Get in touch as early as you can, especially during festival season. We also handle shorter notice when the equipment is free.
